CMA CGM pilots strike over working conditions, amid doubts over CEO’s future

CMA CGM Air Cargo’s (CCAC) pilot union has called a strike, to run from yesterday to Friday – however, most of its aircraft appear to be operating today.
A source has also told The Loadstar that the airline’s CEO, Guillaume Lathelize, is to be replaced by Damien Mazaudier, a former CMA executive currently CEO of Monaco private helicopter flight company Monacair. CMA has not responded to requests for confirmation of the appointment. Read more here (login required).

Why green skills are vital for the survival of airfreight

As the logistics industry continues to progress towards achieving net-zero emissions, new skills will be needed to support the development of new technologies and the transition itself.
By 2032, UK recruitment agency Morson Talent has estimated that there will be 175,000 new jobs created within the transport sector alone, with “green-skilled” roles including alternative fuel experts, green aerospace and hydrogen electrolysis engineers. Read more here

Airfreight rates down in June as summer lull arrives

AAirfreight rates declined again in June as the quieter summer period resulted in a demand slowdown (see dashboard at end of article).The latest figures from the Baltic Exchange Airfreight Index (BAI) show that average rates – based on contract and spot process paid by forwarders – on services from Hong Kong to North America slipped to $4.92 per kg in June from $5.07 per kg in May. Compared with last year, rates are 43.6% down. Read more here

Ransomware attack cripples Japan’s biggest port

The Port of Nagoya in Japan has become the latest big name in maritime to be hit by a ransomware attack.
A crippling system glitch was detected on Tuesday morning, after which the port has been unable to load and unload containers from trailers. Read more here

CMA CGM hikes rates even as record ultra-large newbuild tonnage sails in

CMA CGM yesterday followed Maersk’s shock price announcement on Monday with a big hike in its Asia-North Europe rates.
The French carrier said from 1 August it would increase its 20ft FAK rate to $1,075 and its 40ft rate to $1,950, which compares with the $1,025 and $1,900 proposed increases by Maersk for 31 July. Read more here (login required).
