Union Workers at the Port of Montreal reject deal
Unionized Longshoremen at the Port of Montreal on Sunday rejected an offer from management, raising industry fears of a new strike following crippling work stoppages in 2020.
This news comes as the 7-month truce between the unionized dockworkers (CUPE Local 375) and the Maritime Employers Association (MEA) expired over the weekend.
An overwhelming 99.71% of the 1,125 longshore workers at Canada’s second-largest port rejected the offer presented by the MEA.
The Longshoremen have not yet formally asked to strike; however, their official strike position will be clearer as of Wednesday morning.
It is believed that work schedules were one of the major issues in the talks.
