Marc's Picks
A recent project to Texas 11/26/2007
For the first edition of Marc's Picks i thought it would be a good idea to introduce an area in which OEC is currently experiencing considerable growth.  This is a project that we undertook from Sorel and were very pleased with its outcome.  Here's a short brief of the project.

It took almost three months for the consignee of these absorbers to determine how best to transport them to their new home in Freeport, Texas. Original routing called for transportation by rail to destination in the USA from Sorel, Quebec. However, after much consideration it was determined that the absorbers would not withstand the forces surrounding rail transportation and alternative was required. OEC and its partner in Texas determined that road transportation was not an option due to the fact that the absorbers weighed a whopping 94,363 kilos each. One solution was to barge the units from Sorel Quebec up towards Chicago and down the river system to final destination at Freeport. However, timing and logistical challenges prevented us from adopting this solution.

OEC finally determined the best routing would be via barge from manufacturer up the Richelieu River for two kilometers to bring it along side a chartered vessel. OEC chartered this vessel to load and deliver the goods to Freeport, Texas. Loaded on November 12, 2007 it was delivered in excellent condition on November 23, 2007.

Welcome 11/1/2007

Hello and welcome to our new section called Marc's Picks.  This 'blog' will be a bi-weekly event where I will be giving you an accord of what's going on in the world of freight, and also just what's going through my head at the time.  Mostly I will be covering places in the world I have visited; where to eat, where to stay, what to do and  what to see.  What's hot, new jokes I've heard and what's happening in the community will also be occasional topics.  Basically it's a hodgepodge of what is going on in the OEC world.  I hope that you are going to enjoy this as much as I will.

Best regards,

Marc
